Since Bill Waslo showed the TD drivers to be lower in distortion than the compression driver (4550) at typical cross over frequencies, running the TD10M up to 1300 IMO is better than having increased distortion and straining the 4550 lower. May 29, 2008 What do people think about a BMS 4550 compression driver with a BMS 2230 horn, with a crossover point at 900Hz, on top of two half MT 122 loaded with B&C12PE32? (I mean to build the MT 122 in three different cabinets, 2x12' + the top section). Located in Hannover Germany, BMS manufactures and designs compression drivers of high and mid-high frequency range for pro audio applications along with cones, horns, coaxials, and a planar wave device. I have all the parts in possession. The TD10M drivers have the apollo option. I have the cabs 80% built. The drivers are all countersunk. The issue is the TD10M's port. Its a 1.15 cu ft box with a 4' port at 5.75' tuned to about 59hz. WINisd shows the first port resonance at 1232hz. I already put the port on the front just under the TD10M not thinking about the resonance or that they would be really close to each other possibly exciting it.. I can move it to the back but its going to involve some effort though. Its likely going to be 20db down in level so I don't know if it's an issue or not. I can stuff the port. The crossover is at 1300-1350 active. Jbl Compression DriversThe high pass on the 10' is at 80hz. Any opinions? Don't beat me up too bad. Nice to see someone else in the Springs building an SEOS speaker. To arrive at what I am doing, I know where both drivers have been used in the past. Bill Waslo measured the BMS/SEOS10 combo and it is still holding its pattern at 1300hz. The TD10M will start to beam after 1450 by virtue of its 9' radiating surface. This gives me a 1300-1350 comfort zone for the cross and both drivers are still well behaved for a bit in each direction. Using a RTA, I can EQ for flat response with very few adjustments. The SEOS10/BMS is flatter than any tweeter I have used and it does it with one high Q adjustment centered at 3200hz. I have it running using other mid-bass drivers right now and I have found my dream driver for highs. I can use a bunch of adjustments since its an active build so changes are easy unlike manually changing a passive crossover. Originally Posted by tuxedocivic You're using very nice components. Obviously its not just an RTA. Horn Loaded Compression DriversThe DCX2496 can do the delays as I have on all builds. Big money says there wont be much changed in the active cross after measurements because these same drivers have been used enough times to know where and how to cross. Feedback from a deep reverse null will answer much of the guess work beyond that. I'm not using a DNA 205; I'm using a BMS 4550. Its a home theater and I can't have 17' or 18' wide speakers sitting between me and the 16 foot screen. Size was the constraint and the TD10M and SEOS10 -BMS 4550 drivers are as good as any combo. Bms 4550 Compression Drivers For MacHaving a 12' wide speaker out from boundaries crossing in front of me exaggerates the depth of image by reducing side wall reflections and allowing a rear wall (screen reflection) with a greater than 8 ms delay. My subs (four 15' TC LMSR) are huge and sit in the front corners and are far beyond the bass ability of the TD15M.
